Fractal Bitcoin Takes a Giant Leap: Public Testnet Launched

What’s new in this release:

Fractal Node Open-Sourced: The Fractal Node code is now available to the public, offering new opportunities for developers and researchers.

OP_CAT Activated on Fractal: One of the key updates is the activation of OP_CAT, significantly enhancing the network’s capabilities.

BRC-20 Rules & Activation: New rules for BRC-20 tokens have been introduced, paving the way for their activation on the Fractal platform.

Developer Resources Available: New resources are now available to help developers get started with the platform more easily.

  • Fractal Node Open-Sourced

In anticipation of the upcoming Fractal mainnet launch, Fractal Bitcoin has open-sourced its node during the testnet phase. This move aims to foster closer collaboration with the developer community, allowing for the identification and resolution of potential issues before the official launch.

The source code for the Fractal Node is now available and can be accessed via the project’s repository.

  • OP_CAT Activated on Fractal

Following a successful community vote, OP_CAT has been activated with the launch of the Fractal Bitcoin public testnet. This activation marks a significant milestone in the testnet’s development, reflecting the community’s involvement in shaping the platform.

The corresponding code changes can be reviewed in the project’s repository.

  • BRC-20 Rules & Activation

On the Fractal Bitcoin public testnet, block height 21,000 is expected to be reached within the next 7 days. Only inscriptions created after this block height will be considered valid, marking an important milestone for the network.

New BRC-20 Rules on Fractal:

  • Ticker Name Length: Ticker names must be between 6 to 32 bytes. Notably, 4/5 byte BRC-20 tickers are explicitly prohibited to avoid conflicts with the Bitcoin mainnet.
  • Allowed Characters: Ticker names are restricted to a byte set of “a-z A-Z 0-9 _”, allowing for a total of 63 valid character types.
  • Self-Minting Enabled: The “self_mint” field will be activated for all BRC-20 tickers on Fractal.

These rules are designed to ensure the smooth operation and compatibility of BRC-20 tokens within the Fractal ecosystem.
