Memecoiners Unveil 12-Foot Golden Trump Bitcoin Statue Near US Capitol

Pump.fun stunt honors Trump’s crypto stance as Fed cuts rates

Memecoin enthusiasts livestreamed the placement of a massive golden statue of Donald Trump holding a Bitcoin outside the US Capitol on Wednesday, staging the spectacle as part of a Pump.fun stunt.

The 12-foot statue was installed near Union Square on the National Mall, a location leading up to Capitol Hill and just a mile from the White House. A website linked to the project described the statue as a tribute to Trump’s “unwavering commitment to advancing the future of finance through Bitcoin and decentralized technologies.”

Its unveiling coincided with the Federal Reserve’s first rate cut of the year, a 25-basis-point reduction often seen as supportive of risk assets such as crypto. Trump’s presidency has been closely tied to the industry, with his campaign receiving strong financial backing from crypto firms as regulatory oversight has eased.

Organisers tout Trump’s pro-crypto legacy

Hichem Zaghdoudi, one of the organisers, told local media that the statue was meant to spark conversation about “the future of government-issued currency” and symbolized the crossover between politics and financial innovation.

“This is a statement, this is to show everybody that without the president, we could never have had this mass adoption of Bitcoin,” Zaghdoudi said, calling the tribute a “thank you” to Trump.

Critics, however, note that Bitcoin’s current bull cycle began in late 2023 under President Biden, driven largely by anticipation and approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Foam-built statue tied to Pump.fun memecoin

The statue, built from hardened foam for easier transport, was featured in multiple Pump.fun livestreams tied to the launch of a Trump-themed memecoin. Footage showed the carving process and the statue’s delivery to its final location.

Organisers said they hoped Trump himself might see the statue, though the president was visiting the UK at the time of its unveiling.

National Mall a hotspot for Trump-themed statues

The golden Trump Bitcoin monument is the latest in a series of symbolic installations to appear on the National Mall this year. In June, a giant golden hand crushing the Statue of Liberty’s crown and a separate gold television displaying footage of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein both appeared as protest art.

Unlike those works, however, this latest addition stands out as one of the few in open support of the president – and as a marker of crypto’s growing influence in political culture.
