Trump Says Lawmakers Will Vote in Favor of GENIUS Act Tomorrow Morning

President Donald Trump ignites new momentum for the GENIUS Act with a last-minute comeback deal, reigniting hopes for sweeping digital asset regulation amid GOP internal upheaval
President Donald Trump has announced a breakthrough in securing the necessary Republican votes to advance the GENIUS Act, a pivotal piece of legislation aimed at regulating digital assets and stablecoins.
In a post on Truth Social on July 15, Trump revealed that 11 of the 12 congressional Republicans who had previously blocked the bill’s procedural vote had pledged to vote in favor of it during a new vote scheduled for the following morning.
“I am in the Oval Office with 11 of the 12 Congressmen/women necessary to pass the GENIUS Act and, after a short discussion, they have all agreed to vote tomorrow morning in favor of the Rule,” Trump said.
He added that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson participated in the meeting via phone and is prepared to move quickly on the vote. “I want to thank the Congressmen/women for their quick and positive response. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump concluded.
Trump Announces Breakthrough on GENIUS Act
The GENIUS Act faced an unexpected setback earlier on July 15 after a 196–223 House vote failed to advance the bill, with 13 Republicans breaking ranks and opposing the measure. The defeat surprised House leadership and stalled the administration’s broader crypto agenda.
The bill was designed to establish a regulatory framework for stablecoins and other digital assets, serving as the cornerstone of what Republicans had dubbed “Crypto Week.” However, GOP resistance over federal control and skepticism regarding Trump-aligned interests undermined the initiative.
The failed rule vote also derailed two related bills: the CLARITY Act, which aims to define whether tokens are securities or commodities, and the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, which seeks to ban the issuance of a central bank digital currency.
Internal GOP Resistance Disrupts “Crypto Week”
Conservative lawmakers expressed frustration over the process and content of the GENIUS Act package. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene posted on X:
“I just voted NO on the Rule for the GENIUS Act because it does not include a ban on central bank digital currency and because Speaker Johnson did not allow us to submit amendments to the GENIUS Act.”
Despite internal division, Trump’s intervention appears to have salvaged momentum for the bill, with a renewed vote now expected to take place in the morning of July 16. If passed, the GENIUS Act could mark a turning point for U.S. digital asset regulation.
